Salicornia europaea or glasswort is a halophytic annual dicot which grows in various zones of intertidal salt marshes. Salicornia europaea is highly edible, either cooked or raw. In England, it is one of several plants known as samphire (see also rock samphire). Samphire is usually cooked, either steamed or microwaved, and then coated in butter or olive oil.
Mimosa pudica, also called sensitive plant, sleepy plant and the touch-me-not is a source of fascination to adults and children alike. When touched, the narrow fern-like leaflets they almost instantaneously fold together and the leaf stalk droops.
