Lilloise lettuce is an old, butter-headed variety that originates, as its name suggests, from Lille. Renowned for its voluminous head and above all its finesse, it is ideal for spring and autumn production. This old variety from the end of the 19th century is perfectly adapted to the climate of the Nord region, it was also very successful in the 1960s, where it was widely cultivated by market gardeners in the Nord Pas de Calais region, before gradually being abandoned in the 70s and 80s in favor of hybrid varieties. Saved from oblivion recently, this strain deserves a place in your vegetable patch !

For its cultivation, this variety is sown in place from March to July at the rate of 2 to 3 seeds every 30 cm, or in a bucket to be transplanted after about 4 to 6 weeks. They will then be harvested 4 to 7 weeks later. Lettuce appreciates sunny or semi-shaded exposures as well as humus-rich, cool and well-drained soils. If the soil is too heavy you can add sand.
